I have been contemplating purchasing an Amazon Kindle for a few weeks. The newest version can read mathematical formulas on pdf-formatted papers and books. I can thus just carry a Kindle instead of a backpack of papers and books which is bound to break my back sooner or later. Two days ago, two books suddenly disappeared on the Kindles of any Amazon customers who have purchased them. Their Amazon accounts were re-credited. Full story here. The irony: “The author who was the victim of this Big Brotherish plot was none other than George Orwell. And the books were “1984” and “Animal Farm.”” I knew there would be a price we have to pay for “going green”. I never knew the price could be this bizarre “invisible hand” from a book seller. Who is going to buy a device which was designed so that its hard-drive can be erased remotely? (Sounds like a worm!)
